I ran into similar problems which seemed to be two separate issues.
1) Win98 and DOS shell weren't getting my environment variables correctly
2) I had a problem with pathnames.
I solved these issues by doing some overkill on the first issue (environment
variables in both the autoexec.bat and connect.bat) and by using short paths
for the second issue.
My autoexec bat has the following (note my home is in the root of d Drive and
doesn't have a slash):
SET HOME=d:
SET CVS_RSH=ssh
I configured the WinCvs preferences "WinCvs Preferences | Ports | Check for
an alternate rsh name: connect.bat". I created a file called connect.bat
rather than ssh.bat because I'm not sure what Win98 does if it sees ssh.bat
and ssh.exe in the same directory. Mine looks like this:
@echo off
SET HOME=d:
SET CVS_RSH=ssh
d:\apps\gnu\wincvs\ssh.exe -C -l %3 -i d:\.ssh\identity %1 %4
Lastly, I know that other people had problems if they installed wincvs or ssh
in a directory which has spaces in it (i.e. Program Files).
Hope that helps.
