I do this as well.  We do have disk space troubles with large Word files
(say 7-8Mb each) as the versions build over time.  However, there is a
cvs admin command which can be used to remove old versions of files.  
I don't recall the syntax of this command off the top of my head, but
it is given with an example in the CVS manual.
