Client/server CVS is used to manage the repositories for CVS itself,
FreeBSD, Linux, and other projects with developers all over the world; I
think it can handle six sites.  :-)

Read the entire section on "Remote repositories" in the CVS manual (I'm
not sure how eight pages can be considered "sparse"), paying particular
attention to "Security considerations with password authentication".
