CVS Error with virtuald

using CVS and virtuald to bind it to a specific ip address and I get this 
error:

cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/u01/repository checkout foo

returns this:

cvs [checkout aborted]: recv() from server 10.0.0.173: Connection reset by peer


If I run it the normal way (i.e. without virtuald) everything is fine.
