Generally Unix vendors know what they are doing, and provide backward
compatibility to a reasonable degree. I mean, Sun don't go as far as
saying you can execute SunOS 4 binaries (as of 1910 or so :-) on
Solaris. But Solaris 2.6 binaries will work for higher versions as
2.[78].
(Even if it wouldn't work, you could always go compile it yourself on
your favourite OS which you will run it on.)
