verbose option for commit?

Hello.  When I do cvs commit, is there some kind of "verbose"
option so that I know what it is doing?
Right now, on my 56K modem, it cranks for many minutes with no
output to the screen.  I would like some kind of progress update
messages.

I looked in the FAQ, searched the archives, etc. with no luck.
