Although you haven't given us nearly enough detail to diagnose the
problem, my crystal ball tells me that you're running in pserver mode
with a separate password file (in $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/passwd). That file
does *NOT* have the same format as /etc/passwd -- it should only have
three fields (not seven), and the third field should either be omitted
or be the username to run as (not the user's UID).
