Here a short description about how it works.
I hope the lines are now short enough.
I also beg your pardon if you think this is not the right
place for discussing this issue.

I managed to configure sendmail the way I wanted it to.
All the work is done with adding a line in the genericstable-file 
in /etc/mail (for example "loginname    [EMAIL PROTECTED]")
and then building the genericstable.db with the right maptype
in our situation hash using the makemap-command
("makemap -v hash genericstable.db < genericstable").
