Of course.  When you do an update, you'll see something like:

        cvs update: Updating .
        U test.dxl
        cvs update: nonmergeable file needs merge
        cvs update: revision 1.2 from repository is now in test.dxl
        cvs update: file from working directory is now in .#test.dxl.1.1
        C test.dxl
