You can also do "cvs -n -q update", if you just want the list of files that
will be touched (you won't see the actual changes)

Just to avoid confusion, don't refer to your working copy as the
repository :)
It sounds like you have the concepts a bit messed up. Check out
http://cvsbook.red-bean.com/cvsbook.html for a really good treatment of
CVS.
