I would *strongly* recommend learning the command-line interface first.
There are only a few key concepts that need to be understood to use CVS
effectively. While a GUI is great, understanding the core commands will
enable you and your trainees to use any of the other front-ends (eg. IDE
integrated tools) that may be available for your development environment
(see http://www.cvshome.org/dev/addons.html for some examples) with very
little extra training. Learn the least common denominator first, and all
the derivatives will be a POC.
