Best way to share repositories

Thanks for the input, Larry! One final question: whenever I have tried an import in the past, it truncated (removed) all history and reset the version number to 1.1.1.1. Is there some command line switch that I'm supposed to apply? Have I used import incorrectly? Will I have the same problems with export? Sorry for so many silly questions, I just want to get it right :)
