If GSSAPI is not compiled in,  on the server side, CVS would have said 
something like "GSSAPI authentication not supported by this server"; on 
the client side, if GSSAPI is not compiled in, it'd say something like
        cvs history: Your CVSROOT is set for GSSAPI access method.
        cvs history: but your CVS executable doesn't support it
        cvs history: (;gserver:....:....)
        cvs [history aborted]: BAD CVSROOT
