For each file that you want to tag, lop off the penultimate decimal point
from the branch number (and everything following it).  The result is the
sprout point of the branch.  If your repository combines CVS branches with
RCS branches, then use the .1 version on the branch rather than the branch
number.

i have several branches in my cvs. now i have to tag a version at which a
certain branch was forked from the main trunk. so does anybody know how to
retrieve a point of fork version? it will be very hard to do this by using
the date because several subdirectories have been joined to the branch at
different times.
