You can definitely use rtag to tag a branch:

cvs rtag -r $BRANCH $TAG $MODULE

Subject: can rtag on an existing branch?

I created a branch with rtag and made some changes to it

If I use my normal rtag command it will put a new tag on the main branch

How do I create a new tag on this branch.

Note: this is suggested as a good way of doing things in the

Branching and merging at the bottom of section

5.7 Merging from a branch several times

It just does not say how to create the new tag.

Do I have to learn how to use the tag command instead of the rtag
command
to do this?
