Yes, you can tag files on a branch. But I don't think that's what you
mean...

You don't change revision numbers by tagging files, you change revision
numbers by committing changes. I think you should read the CVS manual:

particularly the section on branching and merging, and then try asking a
more intelligible question if you still are confused.
