If you make a release, you should always tag this release. Then it is no
problem to branch at this point later to do some fixes.
Also, don't mix cvs revision numbers (like 1.7, 1.7.1.1, etc) with your
release versions. A project surely has multiple files and not every one will
have revision 1.7. Try to ignore cvs revision numbers, think in tags and branches.
