I am just getting started with CVS, being experienced in RCS. I got myself fairly confused with Repositories and Directories when I tried to create a personal repository in my home directory to hold some of the setup files, such as .cshrc that I edit frequently. I would like to edit these files, in place, in my home directory and have versions saved in a CVS repository that is within my controllable file space, i.e. within my home directory. It looks like that is not possible. It also seems to be the case that CVS must create an entire working directory when files are checked out, so I would not be able to work on these files in my home directory so that they would be in the location where there are normally executed without a separate move operation. Can someone help this beginner get over this (perhaps only mental) block? Thanks.
