I believe (since I submitted a patch to do otherwise) that any "cvs up" will wipe out an edit. Removing this behaviour from CVS greatly cleans up the code (since update.c is no longer dependent on edit.c) and makes the CVS behaviour more modular (if someone wanted the old behaviour, they can always create a script).
