If you do that then it's critical to use "-ko", at least when managing
sources that include RCS keywords

There's also a potential issue with files that were ignored on import.

It's not like there's any shortage of copies of the virgin original
source archive, at least not for GNU licensed software.

It's safest to simply obtain and unpack an original distribution instead
of trying to extract it again from a vendor-branced module.
