They are binary, right? Generic filemasks for making stuff binary can be
configured in CVSROOT/cvswrappers, see
<http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/cvs_18.html#SEC164>. There are also a
couple of other configuration options; get involved with env variable
called CVSWRAPPERS and the -W switch.

On a file-by-file basis, set them to binary by using "cvs admin -kb". But
please note that you need to do that before the first commit, or the files
get wasted. Doing -kb on already corrupted files won't do you any good, of
course.

OS borders are not a problem (in this respect, at least :-)).
