Each platform usually has a packaging method available as well. Solaris, IRIX, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, and *BSD Unix all have packaging systems supplied with them. Microsoft's systems have commercial products, e.g. InstallShield and InstallAnywhere that perform these tasks.
