We're testing out the new version of CVS 1.11.5 on a new pserver (Solaris 5.8) using port 2402. All of our cross-platform access (i.e., Solaris, Linux & Win2K) to this new port and version check out okay **except** for WinCVS. We're using WinCVS 1.3b10.You may have better luck, then, on the WinCVS list:

My best guess, though, as to your problems, is that wincvs ships with cvsnt (http://www.cvsnt.org/) and not the more standard cygwin cvs. Cvsnt supports a few extra options; WinCVS may make use of those. Also, in a default install of cvsnt DOS line-endings will be used for metadata. In a default install of cygwin cvs UNIX line-endings will be used for the metadata. IIRC you cannot use both clients on one sandbox. (This means that if you were using the default cvsnt before I would expect cygwin's defaults to cause errors when used with your existing sandboxes.)
