After posting this problem I successfully built cvs 1.11.12 on SGI IRIX64 6.5 and IBM AIX 3.4.
I also did a "make -i" (to ignore serious errors) on the DEC alpha OSF1 V4.0 and only have the problem shown below with the rcs.c source file. Still open for suggestion?
