Yes, everyone can run away scared now :) Nah, only your users need to worry about it. :-) > So, my question is, is there a dummy's guide for installing and > setting up CVS, with a list of all the Is we have to dot, and Ts we > have to cross? There might be interesting articles in the mail.gnu.org archive for the info-cvs mailing list. It should not be a problem to move the repository to a new machine. You get bounus points if you can call the new server by the same name as the old server and use the same pathname to the repository on the new server as compared to the old. It is a good idea to move the repository when no one is actively using it, but you probably figured that one out all by yourself. :-) > The UNIX admin prefers to use the binary from www.sunfreeware.com, so > this will be CVS version 1.11.5. > > Thanks in advance :) > Katherine If you plan on using :pserver: with that version of cvs, I suggest you rethink your plan. Or, go ahead, but I suggest you read http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/9178 first. (You might be mostly okay if you use :ext: mode.) In general, we recommend using cvs-1.11.13 if possible (it was released on 2004-02-13). If you need to build it, you should be able to download a gcc compiler from your favorite www.sunfreeware.com site to build it). You may wish to drop a kind plea to your friends at www.sunfreeware.com to beg them to upgrade the version of cvs being made available to something a bit more recent...
