Though, I wanted to avoid this procedure, because it doesn't allow me to do intermediate commits to the repository. I have to work at home with a local copy which gets checked in only at work. This is not really an option if one prefers to work step by step... But anyway, thanks for the info, I guess that could be of value also for other readers of this list! What concerns cygwin: that might be a good try! I have to test that as well. But what troubles me is the mangling of CaSeS in file names. Windows behaves here kind sort of unpredictable...
