But now the problem is I cannot checkout only the files with a particular tag because the directory structure cannot be gotten rid of; I am using a Unix repository.

cvs tag TAG_NAME <list of files>

to get files tagged with TAG_NAME in a module
cvs co -r TAG_NAME <module_name>

to get particular file
cvs co -r TAG_NAME <file_name>
