Your installation of CVS will only be dependent on the platform you intend to use to host your server. If you use Unix or Linux you can download and use CVS from https://www.cvshome.org/ or if you intend to build a CVS repository on a Windows platform you can use CVSNT, http://www.cvsnt.com/cvspro/.
