CVS Problem

I was using CVS in local machine fine; running on top of Fedore Core 4.
my cvs version is 1.11.20 and after updating my system, I started getting this error:

cvs [login aborted]: unrecognized auth response from localhost: cvs pserver: cannot open /var/cvs/CVSROOT/config: Permission denied

I would really appreciate your help, because this is really affecting my college project.
