None of us where there when the decision was made, so you can't expect a definitive answer. :-) But I suspect that HEAD was created because a floating revision tag that references the tip of the trunk is handy in certain circumstances. There probably didn't seem to be any need for a branch tag for the trunk (though if there were, TRUNK would be a better choice than HEAD) since that's what you get by default. > I think it's kind of a moot question at this point so I will retract > it.
