In one particular file.  In the general case, that tag would be
associated with a different numeric branch number in each file in the
directory.  For example, the CVS source repository has a branch for the
stable version (cvs1-11-x-branch).  Picking a few files at random, that
branch is 1.9.4, 1.2336.2, 1.1.12, 1.83.4, 1.41.8, etc.
