I agree. When I went to search the archive, Netscape insists on
downloading 7000+ message headers, then sort them. This clogged up my
poor 64k ISDN channel for a good while (frustrating). Then I came across
the same server-side search problems mentioned in the rest of this
thread. Fair enough, though, I did the information I was after (took
many times longer than an equivalent web-based search engine). I've been
using Cyrus for years now, so I've gotten used to it.
If this happens for everyone who considers searching the archive
(perhaps an ex-Exchange user, trying to find a suitable IMAP server,
testing Cyrus as a candidate), this could be no-tick on the
'easy-to-access FAQs/list archives' checkbox for Cyrus IMAP.
Surely, a searchable web-based front-end isn't that hard to set-up?
