Massachusetts has released a policy which is very supportive of the
free software community.

The policy commits them to storing data and conducting government
business in file formats that are free and open. We commend the
Commonwealth for moving in this direction.

Proprietary software companies who stand to lose from the policy have
been loudly complaining about it. Massachusetts will be reading e-mail
comments on the issue until September 9th, 2005. Please take a moment
to send them some positive feedback at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Let
them know why you think free and open formats are a good idea. CC us
on the email at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. We'll post a selection of the
comments online.

Please see the HTML announcement at
http://www.fsf.org/news/opendocument.html for links to the policy
itself.
