Hello, I am pleased to announce the release of GNU tar 1.17.
GNU tar is available from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/tar and the mirror sites worldwide (see http://www.gnu.org/order/ftp.html for the list of those). For more information on tar, including links to file downloads, please see the tar web page: http://www.gnu.org/software/tar and the the project page http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/tar. The MD5 checksums of the files are: 65e568b83caf7aa865144031e7a7c6a8 tar-1.17.tar.gz c6c4f1c075dbf0f75c29737faa58f290 tar-1.17.tar.bz2 93bccba8c40c073f19e0f40eebabfb8f tar-1.17.shar.gz User-visible changes in this release: * Fix archivation of sparse files in posix mode. Previous versions padded sparse members with spurious zero blocks. * Fix operation of --verify --listed-incremental. Version 1.16.1 produced a full dump when both options were given. * Fix --occurence. In previous versions it continued scanning the archive even though all requested members has already been extracted. * Scope of --transform and --strip-components options. In addition to affecting regular archive members, the --transform option affects hard and soft link targets and the --strip-components option affects hard link targets as well. * End-of-volume script can send the new volume name to tar by writing it to the file descriptor stored in the environment variable `TAR_FD'.
