In that case, you should start reading the Gnus manual to learn how
things work.  If you're using the Debian-crippled package that does not
have a manual, you can find a version online at
http://gnus.org/manual.html (rather outdated, but okay for a start).

Temporarily: press /o in the summary buffer.  Permanently: edit the
group parameters, see the manual at
http://gnus.org/manual/gnus_29.html#SEC29 (hint: look for `display').
