That's not what I am looking for, I guess. Setting this variable to
nil would cause display of all *unread* messages. I would want to
display all *new* messages on the server, where `new' describes
messages that have been placed on the server since last time I visited
that group.

Problem is that I might not be able to guess how many messages have
arrived during my absence. Every attempt to access the ones that I
missed will clear the `unseen' flag from those that were displayed the
first time around.
