Here's how you can try to replicate the error I have seen with MIME attachments, assuming that you are using Gnus as a mail reader.
1. Send yourself a message with nothing else in it except for a single PDF-file as an attachment. 2. When you have received the message, go to your mailbox summary, select the article with space, then press "K v".
