What happens if you in the *Group* buffer press "^" to get to the
*Server* buffer - does it contain the new nntp server?
If you type RET with point in the new nntp server, you should be able to
subscribe to newsgroups on it (using "u"), and they should show up in
the *Group* buffer afterwards.
Exit with "q".
