Subject: high speed imaging
One of the objectives of our group is to develop ways to control the
automated welding. Nowadays, we're trying to develop a system to control
the welding quality by observing and analyzing the metal transfer that
occurs during the welding ("GMAW of steel").
To do that, we must get images from the arc welding. Some researchers has
been obtaining images from the arc welding using different equipment's.
But, it is not easy getting high quality images due to the arc high
intensity of illumination and also the high droplet transfer frequency. The
Drop frequency changes between 1000 and 3000/sec, that's why we need a
camera that is capable of getting images with a frequency of 1000
frames/sec or even higher. At the beginning we thought about getting a high
monochromatic camera. And considering the arc high intensity of
illumination, we would like to use a camera with high shutter speed (~0.1 ms).
What would be the best camera in your opinion? What kind of illumination
would be the best? We'd appreciate a lot if you could give us your opinion
about this matter.
