The first and second generation ITs show some problems with phosphor retention and photocathode ionization, which can be cured by reannealing the tube (reverse the polarity of the high-voltage supplies and run the tube at an elevated temperature for a few hours...I don't know the full recipe but you should be able to get it from the original IT manufacturer or someone like Buerle). The only other "age-related" problem is not in the tube itself, but in the high-voltage power supplies for the tube, which tend to degrade over time. Check (carefully) for any cracks in insulators and HV wiring and make sure you remove any dust bunnies and crud that will support corona discharge and reduce the high voltage. There are various HV insulating sprays that can also help. Finally, these HV supplies can be easily replaced with equivalents; there is nothing specific to ITs in these supplies, just replace with the same voltage values. An exception to this is if you use HV-gating as a shuttering function for the IT. Then you may need to find a special HV supply that will support pulse operation. I'm not an expert at ITs but I hope this gives you a starting point and is helpful.
