1. Jaguar Up-to-Date Program ends October 31
On October 31, 2002 the deadline for the receiving Mac OS v10.2 �Jaguar� and
OS X Server v10.2 �Jaguar� CD Media and licensing through the Apple
Up-to-Date Program for eligible purchases made between July 17, 2002 and
August 24, 2002 will end. This offer also applies to any Xserve purchase
made before August 24, 2002. This offer will not be extended.
Even if you do not have plans to implement OS X v10.2 until this coming
summer of 2003, you must act now to receive the CD media and licensing.
The Up-to-Date Program allows you to buy the Mac OS v10.2 �Jaguar� CD Media
for $19.95 and then request the Right to Copy OS X.2 on your other machines.
Yes, you could upgrade an entire lab or building for $19.95.
The Up-to-Date Program also allows you to buy the Mac OS v10.2 �Jaguar�
Server CD Media for $19.95. This means it will cost $19.95 to upgrade each
Server.

2. Apple Announces .Mac Education Pricing
Apple recently introduced .Mac, a suite of innovative Internet services that
replaces iTools as a paid membership program. .Mac is a redesigned service
suite that includes expanded versions of iDisk, HomePage, and Email. .Mac
offers powerful ways to safeguard students� and educators� work with
industry-leading virus protection, easy-to-use backup software, and more.
This offer enables education institutions to purchase an unlimited number of
.Mac one-year subscriptions via purchase order at a special education
institution price of $59 per user (minimum of 10 subscriptions). The retail
cost for .Mac is $100 per user.
Special news for current iTools users:
= For uninterrupted access to the information in your existing iTools
account, you must purchase and activate .Mac for Education by October 14,
2002
= After October 14, 2002, accounts that have not been upgraded to .Mac will
be deactivated. To reinstate an account you must upgrade the account to
.Mac by October 31, 2002.
= Only accounts that have been upgraded to .Mac will retain their data after
October 31, 2002.
= If you choose not to purchase .Mac, the contents of your iDisk can be
saved by simply dragging its contents onto your hard drive before October

3. January OS X Transition
Apple has announced that beginning in January 2003, all new Mac models will
only boot into Mac OS X as the start-up operating system, though they will
retain the ability to run most Mac OS 9 applications through Apple�s bundled
�Classic� software.
This transition applies to any Apple computer that debuts after January 1,
2003 whether it is a brand new design or a rev of an existing model. If
Apple rev.s a current Mac before January 1, 2003, this transition will not
apply. This also means these new Macs cannot be wiped clean and re-imaged
to boot only in OS 9.
The newly released Mac OS X v10.2 "Jaguar" includes an updated version of
Classic which:
- launches twice as fast and can be set to launch at start up
- awakens from sleep much faster
- runs older Mac OS 9 applications than previously ran in Classic
- can share the same desktop and document folders and Internet preferences
as Mac OS X
- can access all Mac OS X file systems

4. Apple Announces Re-certification Requirement for Hardware Technicians
AppleCare will soon introduce new technician certification tests, including
a Mac OS X test, and implement a re-certification requirement for hardware
technicians. All service locations must have at least one tech that has
completed the new certification process (or re-certification process) by
April 1, 2003. If a service location does not have a tech that has done so
by April 1, 2003, they will be unable to order service parts.

5. InterMapper Remote 1.0.2 Update Available
InterMapper Remote provides a remote view on your network. It works in
conjunction with InterMapper (http://www.intermapper.com) to allow you to
see the real-time status of your routers, switches, servers, and other
networking equipment from a remote location. InterMapper Remote is a cross
platform tool. It runs on MacOS X, Windows NT/2000, and various versions of
Unix and Linux.

7. Security Device To Protect AirPort Base Station From Theft
Are you using Apple AirPort Base Stations to add wireless network
connectivity to your facility? Are you concerned about the theft of the
Base Stations. A school in Nebraska has come with a means of securing them
without interfering with their operation. They call their security device a
SecuRING and they are making them available to others.
Each SecuRING includes mounting hardware for wood, drywall, and concrete
surfaces.
