Jackie,

I taught programming for many years and tried different langauges and
always came back to QBasic. It gives the user all of the basic constructs
that apply to all languages without a lot of clutter. It can be found in
the oldmsdos folder on Win9x and ME installation cdroms. Be sure to copy
over the QBasic help file. Students can be writing programs the first day
yet is powerful enough to use for anything else. There is a lot to learn in
Visual Basic that has nothing to do with programming but just to make things
look nice. If you're interested, I think I stll have most of the stuff I
used for teaching QBasic. Students will also need to learn some MS-Dos
which will be invaluable to them in the future.

George
