Title: UnitedStreaming update
Hi,

I have had several questions about the UnitedStreaming project and would like to address them in this e-mail.

The UnitedStreaming digital delivery project for this year was a pilot project to determine if there was interest and technical ability to support the digital method of motion media delivery in AEA 8.    As with any new technology, some embraced the idea whole-heartedly from the beginning, some wanted to see if the project could work, some did not think it would ever work in their district, and some did not have the technology readily available to receive/view/use digitally delivered motion media.

I personally do not worry too much able usage statistics in the first year of implementation, based on the knowledge that any change takes between 3-5 years before it can be fully evaluated.  Even with that in mind, the usage continues to increase.

Running parallel to the AEA 8 decision of whether to continue the pilot project is a state-wide collaborative group (Iowa Collaborative for Digital Content Delivery) that is working on providing a statewide solution to digital delivery.  This group includes various representative from the AEAs, the State Library, and IPTV.  I am serving on this committee, working primarily on the Content Selection subcommittee.

While the statewide committee works through the RFP (Request for Proposal) process, the AEA's were asked to hold off on submitting P.O.s to the various digital delivery vendors in order to not complicate the negotiations.

To honor that request, AEA 8 has elected to refrain from submitting an official P.O. for UnitedStreaming until the responses to the RFP are returned.  I have been assured that the cost for UnitedStreaming for the 04-05 year will be within the realm of acceptability.

The intent is for AEA 8 to offer UnitedStreaming next year, but know that the official paperwork is not yet completed.

If you have any additional questions that this e-mail did not address, please contact me.
