Vicki,

We offer a class in website publishing using Front Page.  They are responsible for our school website.  The students are given assignments and then they save it to an unpublished website.  The instructor reviews it and then publishes it to the viewable website.  It’s not the best website but it accomplishes the dual tasks of being an educational experience and also as the school website.  When I look at it and I think it could be a lot better, I hold my tongue for two reasons, number 1, I don’t want to do it, and more importantly, we are, after-all, an educational institution. Once in awhile I’ll hear a comment about the website from the public about a link not working quite right. I tell them that it is done by students and who are just learning.  They understand and are glad to see that students are actually doing the work as part of an educational experience.

The easiest thing would be to hire some one else to do it.  Our administration and school board chose to have our students responsible for our website, fully aware that it may not be perfect.  You may want to visit with your administration and school board about it.  As a former educator for 37 years, I would recommend that you take advantage of the educational opportunity if you can.

PS We host our website on our own server.

Subject: [info-tech] Web site

I have been trying to learn HTML, ASP for our website.   I want something that is more user friendly than ours is.  It was set up several years ago and there is one student here that knows the whole thing and I am trying to learn.

We are thinking about going out to a website service.  Could you give me feed back as to what you do for your website and who your service is with?

Thanks

Vicki Johnson
