Teacher requests for specific grade level or department level software comes from their budget. If it is expensive or will cover several dept or grades, I make an exception.
Regardless, teachers must complete an official requisition, submit it to the Principal and then to me. I will then have a conversation with the teachers about the purpose of the software and how it fixes into instruction. I had one teacher who wanted to purchase 25 copies of a program at $100 each to do a one day supplimental activity for her class. She thought that I should buy it. She thought differently when she found out it was coming out of her budget. I suggested that she purchase one copy, use a data projector and do it as a class activity.
