On the faded printing, it could be the transfer roller, also included in a
maintenance kit. Start a print job and open the cover when the paper is half
way through. You should be able to see if the problem exists before the fuser.
If it is there right after the drum, then it could be the transfer roller.
Pop one off of a good unit and see if it helps.

Jon-

9 times out of 10 rollers will solve the problem for paper
pickup. We ran into a problem a month or so ago in which the laser
scanner assembly was causing paper to jam up. We did rollers first, but
it ended up being the scanner assembly.

I haven't run into the faded side of printing. If you are close
to 200,000 sheets on those 4050's, it will want a maintenance kit, which
will do the fuser. But, I haven't seen anything like that before.

We have been buying our maintenance kits from:

                Pre-Owned Electronics, Inc.
                Matthew D'Atri
                800-274-5343 x 4414
                [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The kits for the 4000/4050/4100 printers cost $187.07, which is
an exchange on the fuser. The cost included shipping the fuser back to
them. We haven't had a bit of trouble with them, and they are a snap to
install.

        Have a great weekend!!!

Jeremy

Subject: [info-tech] Printer repair question.

I have one HP 4050 that is having trouble picking up paper and I figure
it needs a roller kit.

I also have another printer that is only printing lightly, if at all on
the right side of the paper. I have tried different toner, but I am not
thinking it needs a maintanence kit or fuser replacement.

Has anyone else come across this and could someone tell me if it is the
fuser?

The reason I am asking is that I have about 12 of these 4050 and they
are all about the same age. I can replace rollers and fusers if I know
that is the problem. I really don't want to take it to a repair person
if it is something I can fix.

Call me thrifty or cheap, but hey things are tight all over!
Thanks,
