[info-tech] animation software

I have a couple of students that want to work with animation (mostly web). We used to use Adobe AfterEffects years ago.  I am wondering if I should just buy the newest version or should I buy Flash or both or something else.  There are so many different products sold now.  Thanks.   Manson Northwest Webster-Home of the Cougars!
