Layne,

"monitored for inappropriate content by me. I have an inbox with all
incoming and outgoing messages from the student email server going to it."

I've heard this a few times, and my jaw drops every time. Is it really
manageable to monitor all incoming and outgoing student email? How much
time does it take? How much lag time does it create in the mail getting
sent or received?

Thanks!

Layne,

Okoboji has student email for grades 5 - 12. We use hmailserver with a
squirrelmail web based client which is all free and integrates with Active
Directory. We run it in house, and it is monitored for inappropriate content
by me. I have an inbox with all incoming and outgoing messages from the
student email server going to it. In the student AUP it says that it is to
be used for academic purposes only and any violation will result in loss of
its use. Which is pretty big since that is the only way they can transfer
files as we have usb drives disabled. I have not had many issues after the
first few.

I'm doing a pilot with some 8th grade students using gmail.

Who out there is doing student email and what things have been problems,
concerns, issues.

Thanks,

Layne
