Fort Dodge has purchased 3 iPods to enhance our TAG program. This is our pilot. I have seen mixed results. Most of our hurdles have been on the teacher side. They are scared of breaking them (iPod or belkin recorder) or having students break them while using them. The one thing that the tech dept. and myself said from the get-go is that there is no reason to purchase nano's for $149 when you can go out and buy a desktop USB mic for $25 and download audacity for free. The only thing that the iPod is good for is recording audio away from the computer. That doesn't happen as much as it could, but 3 iPods at this time is enough for our TAG dept. to stay happy. We are using www.podomatic.com to host our podcasts and then set that website up to dump them into iTunes. If any of you are using or have used them, we have a few questions for you. What is the educational value of using iPods in the classroom? What types of things have classrooms done with them? Have you come across any problems and is Apple willing to help? Besides the iPods, what kind of hardware will we need to get started? Do you have any other suggestions that you can offer?
