When I started the job at the beginning of our 1:1 program, we already had a
FortiGate 60 with web filtering on the whole network, and that's still in
place. The 8e6 is used only on the student laptops, and mainly for off-site
content filtering, but it filters the laptops whether they're in the
building or not. It does come in handy to have two levels of filtering in
place (less restrictive on the whole network from the FortiGate, more
restrictive on student laptops from the R3000). I don't use nearly all the
capabilities of the R3000, but I am very happy with the way it works. Ken
Plunk from PC Hotline provides support for the R3000 and he has been
extremely helpful (and patient). With the 8e6, you can get extremely
fine-grained about filtering, and customize it heavily. I did find the
"recommended" filtering settings to be far too strict for high school
students.

What are your thoughts on the product? Do you just use it for remote
filtering? What do you use for on site filtering?

We use the 8e6 R3000 for remote content filtering on the 1:1 laptops.

Any other schools out there using Marshall 8e6 for their web filtering?
